Of Sweetness and of Strength
By Oscar S. Cisneros [ Download in MP3 ]
Here inside the ocean,
The ocean of my heart,
I feel a certain motion:
A storm's about to start.
The ocean feels electric
And massive is its length.
Its stirrings are a mix
Of sweetness and of strength.
The train moves so slow
But pulls so many tons,
Like the passion that I own
Which cannot be undone.
So slow and so steady
Moves my fierce will;
Like a coiled spring ready
But held tightly still.
Although it be strong
My heart feels a weight.
Its gentleness longs
To help liberate
Those souls trapped on earth
And grounded from the sky;
People lacking mirth
With no reason why.
My friends are all grackles,
Black birds who can fly.
Join them in their cackles,
Don't just sit there and sigh.
Come share with me the air
And delightful levity.
Have the will to dare
And to defy gravity.
Back atop the ocean,
The waters lie so still.
Gone is the commotion.
My dreams are fulfilled.
